Lectures of prof. François E. Cellier

On May, 25th  2010 two lectures, given by prof. François E. Cellier, an outstanding scientist and worldwide known authority on the modelling and simulation area, were organised:

What Can World Models Tell Us About Our Future?Peak Oil and Global Warming looked at from the perspective of a modeler

More than 35 years have passed since Forrester and Meadows published their respective world models. Recently in the context of the ongoing discussions about Peak Oil and Global Warming, the world models of the past are suddenly looked at once more with increasing interest. The time is ripe for looking at the mentioned models once more while asking ourselves: What can world models tell us about our future? How can they help us prepare for the times to come?

Modeling Physical Systems Using Bond Graphs

Modeling is just another word for understanding. In order to truly understand how a physical system works, the knowledge about the system under study must be collected and organized in a meaningful way.  A methodology called Bond graphs is introduced that allows organization of knowledge about physical systems in a uniform and systematic form thus enabling the models development with less errors.

SLOSIM society members visited flight simulator of the Slovenian national airline Adria Airways

SLOSIM society members visited flight simulator of the Slovenian national airline Adria Airways at the Airport Ljubljana at Brnik.

In order to operate successfully every flying school needs corresponding simulator and flying instructors.  So Adria Airways flying school bought a new fixed simulator with a visual display of the terrain and three configurations (for single- and twin-engine propeller aircraft as well as turboprop aircraft). The simulator is designed to train pilots for the following qualifications:

Potential flying time on the simulator for one candidate as part of overall training is 60 hours. Taking into account that the whole programme lasts 220 hours of flying, exercises on simulator represent more than a quarter, exhibiting numerous advantages: training can be quicker and safer, with no bad weather or traffic problems and besides the cost of simulator “flying” is much lower than the cost of flying in the corresponding type of aircraft what gives the flying school a competitive advantage.

The visit for society members and students was organized on Saturday, March the 3rd ,2009 at 10 a. m. About twenty members took part in the event where the members of IVAO Slovenia ( International Virtual Aviation Organization ) first presented the area of virtual aviation and then followed the visit of the simulator and experimental “flights”.
